Wellvana Medical Ed is a start up company that aims to solve the problem of employability for international medical graduates (IMG's) living in Australia.

 

They provide a holistic approach to this employability issue, offering tailored education, mentorship and training to international doctors.

objectives

1. Identify the key roadblocks IMG's face in entering the Australian workforce
 

2. Deliver a user-tested prototype addressing the solution components
 

3. Maintain Wellvana's pre-existing brand guidelines

IMG's who wish to join the healthcare workforce in Australia feel challenged by the complex and time-consuming process of successfully completing registration to practice medicine and the many hoops they must jump through to find a job.

market research

Primary research consisted of understanding the system of medical registration in Australia, through its regulatory body, The AMC.
 

There are a total of 4 different pathways that an IMG can take, which can span over many years and generally cost upwards of $50 000 in fees. 

Choosing the right pathway for the individual is critical to success and minimising the financial cost.

After our reviewing our research, we deduced the following key themes to focus on in the design stage:

community

Sometimes its not what you know, its who you know. Networking with other doctors provides opportunities and a support network

investment

The path to registration is costly, and success isn't guaranteed.

learning

Although some IMG's have 5-15 years of medical experience overseas, further study is still required by the AMC and AHPRA.

1:1 interviews

To better understand IMG's attitudes and behaviours towards medical registration and job seeking in Australia,  we conducted 1:1 user interviews with five International Doctors.

Provide the tools and support IMG's need to enter and thrive in the Australian workforce?

how might we?

user persona

We wanted to form a deeper understanding of our users' goals, needs, experiences, and behaviours. Formed strictly from our research and interview quotes, we synthesized a user persona to create Dr Artika Shan.

We put together a user flow diagram which helped us visualise the site map and the users digital journey.

moodboard

We were provided with existing branding assets (font, font size, colour palette and logos) from the client that we used for the digital product. From there, we collated an inspiration board of how we anticipated Wellvana Medical Ed to look and feel like.

wireframes

This is how our first lo-fi wireframes turned out for the Wellvana Desktop website.


We designed both the external website for potential customers and the internal website for enrolled doctors.

During one of our ideation sessions, we came up with the idea of an AI chatbot that would perform as a virtual assistant for the user when wayfinding the home page. We named him Wellington.


 

Through curated questioning, Wellington would assist the user in finding their individualised program to facilitate their pathway into Australian medicine.

survey highlights

Based on the feedback from 20 survey respondents, we compiled some quantitative data.

 

Results showed interest in Networking, an Online Learning Platform and Mentorship.

competitive analysis

When researching competitors, we discovered that Wellvana's solution differs from anything else on the market. 
 

Their solution is premium, tailored and offers end to end support for each individual.


Due to this, we looked at similar competitive solutions for benchmarking and to identify opportunities before leaning heavily on user research.
